About the Project

Cedar Crest Village is the most active and fastest-growing retirement community in northern New Jersey. It is being built by Erickson Retirement Communities, which is the nation’s leading builder and manager of moderately priced continuing care retirement communities. Cedar Crest Village is a $340 million residential retirement campus for Erickson Retirement Corporation. The campus consists of three community buildings, 12 residential buildings, chapel, parking structures, car wash, and extended care facility. At the center of each community is a two-story community building which houses central activity and dining spaces for residents, including performance auditoriums, classrooms, TV studios, swimming pools, exercise facilities, banks, hair salons, etc., as well as a commercial kitchen. These buildings are typically 51,000 sf with a construction cost of approximately $8.5 million each. These buildings also serve as the core for many of the respective community’s residential building systems, including emergency power generation, cooling towers, boilers, and pumps.

Surrounding each community building are four residential buildings. Each of these residential buildings contain between 102 and 147 living units, as well as facility operation spaces located on the first floor. They are between 117,000 and 147,000 sf each, with construction costs ranging from $11 to $16 million dollars. Erickson Retirement Corporation has a policy to use only water source heat pumps on their projects. The use of these units allows the building owner the flexibility to work within their cost contraints. Partner professionals’ role in this project was the design of all building systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency call, facility management control, telephone, private branch exchange, fiber optic, CATV, CCTV, security, audio/video, HVAC, domestic water, sanitary, sprinkler, and gas distribution for the entire campus, and all associated buildings with the exception of the extended care facility.
