Cone Penetrometer Testing is a form of geotechnical exploration that consists of pushing an instrumented cone into the ground. The cone records the soil bearing capacity, frictional resistance, pore water pressures, and other characteristics. The readings are continuously obtained and are most commonly used for settlement calculations, particularly in cases where liquefaction is a possibility.
