An inclinometer is a device that can be permanently installed or lowered into a specially prepared well casing. The device measures the degree to which the well diverges from the vertical in two directions. The inclinometer well casings are often installed at the edge of slopes or retaining structures that are experiencing movement to determine the rate and position of movement. They should be installed to a depth sufficient to be well below the anticipated area of movement.
