Elizabeth Ruggles, LEED AP, Joins Partner as Technical Director

Elizabeth Ruggles, LEED AP, NCARBPartner Engineering and Science, Inc., is pleased to welcome Elizabeth Ruggles as Technical Director, Accessibility and ADA. A nationally recognized expert in Disabled Accessibility Consulting, Ms. Ruggles has over 16 years of experience in architecture design, property condition assessments, and construction monitoring.

Prior to joining Partner, Ms. Ruggles built the accessibility practice at CBRE, where she managed projects, trained and mentored assessors, and managed client relationships. She began her career in accessibility consulting at MarxOkubo. Since then, she has performed countless accessibility surveys, as well as technical design and consultation, pre-construction plan reviews, and construction progress management.

“Elizabeth is passionate about accessible design and how it serves property owners as well as their communities,” said Partner CEO Joe Derhake. “That passion, along with her extensive experience in the field, makes her a fantastic addition to our already thriving accessibility practice. Together, Elizabeth and our west coast lead, Christy Kim, will make Partner the brand name for accessibility in the U.S.”

Ms. Ruggles's passion for her work goes beyond compliance; she believes the principles of accessible design benefit not only people with disabilities, but property owners as a means to reach a larger market. This balance of inclusivity and business acumen informs her approach to solving accessibility challenges for her clients.

“Our clients count on us to think outside the box,” says Ms. Ruggles. “We show them how their properties can be compliant with accessibility standards and still be beautiful and marketable. They come to us with problems, and we show them possibilities.”

With diverse clients across all sectors and markets, Ms. Ruggles has consulted household names such as Hyatt Hotels and First Midwest Bank. A few of her most recognizable projects include:

  • Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon;
  • Hewlett Packard Office Complex in Boise, Idaho;
  • St. Regis Manhattan Hotel in New York; and
  • The Adolphus Hotel, a 100-year old historic landmark, in Dallas, Texas.

A graduate of Texas Tech University, Ms. Ruggles holds B.S. in Architecture, Master of Architecture, and Master of Business Administration degrees. She is a LEED Accredited Professional, as well as NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) certified. She has taken numerous courses focusing on different accessibility standards including ADA, ANSI and FHAA.
