Michael Pereira Joins Partner as a National Client Manager

Brings environmental banking expertise to risk management practices

Michael Pereira, CHMM, a senior environmental consultant and risk management professional, has joined Partner Engineering and Science Inc. (Partner), an international due diligence, design and construction risk management firm headquartered in Torrance, California, as a National Client Manager.

Mr. Pereira will oversee an assortment of due diligence assessments for Partner’s bank clients and their broad scope of commercial real estate projects, including environmental risk management, Property Condition Assessments, and seismic analysis and retrofit guidance. Working throughout the Pacific Northwest region, Mr. Pereira brings over two decades of multi-disciplinary experience across the environmental consulting industry. Over the course of his career, he has worked on thousands of projects, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, site remediation and underground storage tank removals, vapor extraction systems, groundwater remediation, soil removal solutions, and an assortment of Industrial Hygiene services.

Additionally, Mr. Pereira has expertise in environmental policy writing, regulatory compliance on a Federal and State level, and business development across a wide range of property and transaction types.

For the last six years, Mr. Pereira has been an environmental risk officer at one of the largest banks on the West Coast, where he was responsible for maintaining environmental and seismic risk policies; evaluating due diligence risk management reports for underwriting transactions; engaging with vendors and environmental consultants; performing technical reviews and loan recommendations pursuant to the banks environmental risk policies; and overseeing all aspects of communications, budgeting and contract review.

“Michael brings over 20 years of comprehensive environmental services experience to Partner,” says Director of Operations John Wharff. “Not only will he help expand our market-leading environmental practice operations in the Pacific Northwest region, he has a wealth knowledge about policy requirements and risk management underwriting practices.”

As an environmental consultant, some of Mr. Pereira’s representative projects include managing a portfolio of Phase I and Phase II ESAs for hundreds of big box stores throughout the US; overseeing all aspects of cleanup and restoration of the Bunker Hill Superfund site in Kellogg, ID; and managing environmental due diligence for a portfolio of national cell phone towers for a major carrier. He served as a Remedial Project Manager for five Superfund site cleanups under the Utah Department of Environmental Quality/Division of Environmental Remediation and Response. Mr. Pereira has worked with a diverse array of clients across the commercial real estate sector, including industrial property stakeholders, developers, large retail portfolios (Starbucks, Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and others), telecommunications companies such as AT&T, as well as public and private entities.

Mr. Pereira has a Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences from the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. He is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and has completed a panoply of trainings, courses and ongoing certifications on various issues pertaining to environmental regulations and standards. He is a board member and sustainability chair for CDA 2030 Vision, a City of Coeur d’Alene Design Review Commissioner, and actively involved in various leadership initiatives for the City of Coeur d’Alene.
