Partner’s Dr. Ben Jelin Provides Critical Louisiana State Senate Commerce Committee Testimony

Represented the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)® in its opposition to Louisiana House Bill 748

Partner’s Dr. Ben Jelin provides critical Louisiana State Senate commerce committee testimonyOn May 4th, 2018, Benjamin Jelin MPH, Ph.D., CIH represented the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)® in its opposition to certain provisions in Louisiana House Bill 748 that prohibit individuals who possess a professional designation from a voluntary, non-governmental credentialing organization to use “certified”  or “registered” in their title.  This legislation would have limited extremely qualified individuals from identifying their enhanced value in their chosen profession and could have had far reaching consequences including lower quality service to residents and businesses  of Louisiana and a potential “brain drain” from the state.  As a Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH) in the State of Louisiana,  Dr. Jelin would have been one of the many qualified professionals that would have been affected.   As part of a broader coalition of certified and registered professionals, AIHA was able to successfully lobby the Louisiana Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection and International Affairs Committee to remove all certification/registration language from the bill ensuring the protection of voluntary, non-governmental professional credentials in state.
