Indoor air quality (IAQ) can greatly impact a commercial building’s bottom line and net operating profit. Occupant wellness and olfactory perception are directly related to customer satisfaction and employee productivity. In a recent article for Buildings Magazine, I outline four essential principles for optimizing IAQ to maximize building freshness, occupant wellness, and efficiency. These include proactive consultation with industrial hygience experts, optimizing HVAC performance and design, implementation of indoor plant and green wall technology, and avoiding liabilities through an opeartions and maintenance (O&M) plan.
