Energy Performance Ordinance (EPO)

SF Existing Commercial Buildings Energy Performance Ordinance (EPO)

The EPO requires owners of nonresidential buildings over 10,000 square feet to annually benchmark and report their energy performance and conduct energy efficiency audits every five years. The ordinance aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide transparency in building energy performance.

Building owners must use the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to submit annual energy benchmarking reports by May 1st. Every five years, they are required to perform energy audits compliant with ASHRAE standards. These measures help identify energy-saving opportunities and track improvements over time.
