Geologic or Geotechnical Exploration is the use of small-diameter and large-diameter auger drilling, hand equipment, backhoes, excavators, cone penetrometer soundings, continuous cores, rock and concrete coring, compressed-air, mud-rotary, direct push, hydro-vac, or other excavation equipment, to profile soil and rock conditions, perform field testing, and obtain samples for laboratory testing.
