A Mechanics’ Lien is a legal claim on a property that allows the claimant, usually a contractor or subcontractor, to pursue payment for unpaid work completed at that property. The mechanics’ lien attaches to the title of the property, prohibiting the sale of the property until payment is made to satisfy the lien. Also known as a construction lien or contractors’ lien.
