Like the standard split (Ring) spoon, this larger diameter sampler contains 1-inch brass rings. Blow counts are recorded as in the normal Standard Penetration Test (SPT) test, but their value is corrected for the increased diameter. The rings can be extruded for laboratory testing such as in-place density, consolidation, swell testing, hydro-collapse, direct shear, and others.
