What is top of mind for CRE investors as we head into the second half of 2019? In my latest piece for National Real Estate Investor’s Mid-Year Outlook issue, I discuss the many ways investors are continuing to take advantage of new opportunities (such as lower interest rates, opportunity zone and LIHTC incentives) in spite of caution that we are nearing the late stages of the current real estate and economic cycle. Geopolitical concerns and the proliferation of regulations such as California’s “Net Zero” residential building standard could pose challenges for asset optimization. But with risk management strategies such as value add investments and construction risk management, savvy investors can continue business as usual.
