Douglas Murray, AIA, NCARB Joins Investment Advisory Group as Newest Technical Director

By Partner ESI

Framingham, MA  April 2017 — Registered Architect Douglas Murray has joined Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. (Partner), a national engineering, environmental, and energy consulting firm headquartered in Torrance, CA as Technical Director of Property Condition Assessments (PCA) for its Investment Advisory Group (IAG).

Mr. Murray will lead the engineering practice of Partner’s national IAG team, which provides in-depth services required by commercial real estate investors and owners. As a Registered Architect on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), his focus will be on managing all aspects and scopes for Property Condition Assessments. He will work out of Partner’s Framingham, MA office.

“Partner is excited to have Doug join us as Technical Director of PCAs. His experience, technical knowledge, and close involvement with developing projects from the beginning stages all the way to selling them to various real estate investment trusts makes him a valuable asset to our growing IAG team,” said Mike Arias, leader of Partner’s Investment Advisory Group.

Mr. Murray leverages over 30 years of experience in construction management, development, and commercial real estate assessments to ensure Partner continues to protect investors’ and owners’ interests.

Prior to joining Partner, Mr. Murray managed the construction for large retail chains for more than 10 years. He worked at Hunt Real Estate as a construction program manager for a national portfolio of Family Dollar and CVS Pharmacy Stores. In this role, he oversaw the site selection and development process, leading his team through all environmental due diligence and non-architectural scopes. His main responsibilities were to evaluate sites and provide cost estimates, manage entitlements and permitting, and to direct third-party consultants and contractors through the permitting, design, and construction process for new ground-up projects. He also managed construction with general contractors which included negotiating contracts with general bidders, environmental sub-contracts, sub-contractor review, change orders, and coordination with local and state agencies.

In addition, Mr. Murray has over 20 years of experience as a principal architect in commercial, retail, high-rise, educational, and municipal projects for public and private clients. He has completed and reviewed nearly 100 facility condition assessments, giving him the proficiency to identify shortcomings up front and avoid time-consuming revisions and change orders.

“I look forward to being able to help my new team here at Partner, and to start growing work on the developer and lender side. Our full scope of services means we can take our clients through all phases of a project to manage risk and optimize their investments. I am excited to be part of an organization that offers the convenience of truly being a one-stop shop,” quoted Douglas Murray, AIA, NCARB.

Mr. Murray has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, as well as a Certificate of Special Studies in Management and Administration from the Harvard University Extension School in Cambridge, MA. He holds an Architectural License in both Massachusetts and Connecticut, and is a member of the NCARB architectural registration board for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and three U.S. territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). He is also affiliated with the American Institute of Architects and Boston Society of Architects.
