As property owners and managers rush to clean up and get back to business as usual, good science and good practices may be sacrificed in the name of speed, but these practices turn into much larger, expensive, and potentially dangerous situations. Partner’s Industrial Hygiene Technical Director, Brian Nemetz, CMC gives some lessons learned about cleaning up after a hurricane or other natural disaster.

The Importance of Hurricane Resiliency Standards

While there are Probable Maximum Loss (PML) guidelines in place for earthquakes and fires, there is a lack of standards for hurricanes. Partner’s Relationship Manager, Bob Geiger discusses the importance of establishing a protocol for these storms.

 

 

Meet some of Partner’s Industrial Hygiene Team

Brian Nemetz, CMC has over 15 years of experience as an Industrial Hygienest. As a Technical Director, he is responsible for conducting industrial hygiene, asbestos, indoor air quality, sound level, Legionella, and mold investigations, as we as overseeing multi-phase remediation projects for commercial, industrial, governmental, and construction organizations. Mr. Nemetz has also developed and conducted numerous and various indoor air quality investigations in relation to mold growth, health complaints, water intrusion, and various airborne particulates. Other responsibilities have included developing and implementing remediation projects for mold growth and asbestos.

Benjamin Jelin, Ph.D, CIH, CSP specializes in industrial hygiene and environmental consulting services across a variety of industries and industry sectors, with a focus in occupational health and safety and limiting client liability. His experience includes client consultation in a wide variety of areas, including asbestos hazard identification, abatement protocol development [such as, Negative Exposure Assessments (NEA)], on-site abatement oversight and clearance services; exposure assessment for health and safety compliance for lead, asbestos, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs); indoor air quality investigations; Lead Based Paint (LBP) and lead hazard identification; and fungal / microbial / moisture contamination.

Thomas Rubino recently joined Partner as a Project Manager and has over 10 years of experience in the industrial hygiene and environmental consulting fields. His experience includes performing asbestos and mold surveys throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Mr. Rubino is a NYS DOL / EPA / AHERA Asbestos Air Sampling Technician, Project Monitor, Project Designer and Building Inspector, NYC Licensed Asbestos Investigator, and Certified Residential Mold Inspector.

Project Manager, Ray Lavery has nearly 15 years of experience in the Environmental Engineering and Industrial Hygiene sector. Specific specialties that Mr. Lavery routinely works on are asbestos inspections and abatement, PCB sampling, radon measurement and mitigation, lead-based paint (LBP) identification and development of O&M programs. He also oversees and coordinates day-to-day health and safety, industrial hygiene, asbestos, lead, and indoor air quality (IAQ), due diligence and environmental services.

Project Manager, Jane Alcantara has 17 years of experience serving the environmental and industrial hygiene service industries. Specifically, Ms. Alcantara has performed Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), mini-Phase I ESAs, environmental transaction screens, regulatory compliance assessments, asbestos surveys, lead-based paint surveys, radon studies, mold assessments, indoor air quality surveys, Naturally-Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) Surveys, and lead-in-water sampling and analysis.
