Partner Energy was hired by Stone Age Climbing Gym to perform an SBA 504 Green Energy Loan Public Policy Goal Analysis to evaluate the company’s newest to-be-built 26,204 square foot climbing gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our energy engineers reviewed the project plans and verified that 10% of the building’s total energy consumption would be generated by a renewable energy source, thereby making them eligible for the SBA 504 Green Energy Loan.
The aim of our analysis was to assist Stone Age Climbing Gym’s founder in securing additional funding from the SBA so that they could build out their 2nd location under more favorable loan terms than that of traditional funding. The end result was a highly efficient building that included LED lighting, improved insulation, daylight and occupancy sensors, and opting to install an 87 kW solar energy system, larger than required, that helped them significantly surpass the SBA requirements of 10% to 65%.
Established in 1997, Stone Age Climbing Gym is considered one of the premier climbing gyms in the country and is the largest gym by size in the southwest. This new location, which broke ground on November 13, 2018, was created as an expansion opportunity to create a community gathering place that will feature food, juice, beer, and the gym all within the same development.
